about.
Bringing out the beauty of the macabre, celebrating all forms of literature as the pieces of artwork that they are, and portraying the wonders of nature.
The Painted Skull holds a selection of hand-painted pieces, varying from the lost art of fore-edge paintings, to the more common canvas pieces and prints. Ranging from dark floral and macabre, to soothingly botanical and scenic, with the odd mythological piece thrown in.
About Florence Peacock
From a young age, there has always been an interest in art. Starting off with crudely drawn dragons and wonky-looking trees, the love and admiration for anything botanical, floral or mythological and slightly scary were born. Over the years the talent for drawing evolved into painting and sure enough, became far less crude and wonky. That interest in nature, mythologies, and folklore only grew each day until finally, after years of not knowing what was wanted out of life, the artwork was always returned to.
With no official art-based education or training, it was all trial and error and purely self-taught, until finally the opportunity to leave a basic day-to-day job arose and the pursuit of portraying this interest was allowed in its entirety.
It goes without saying that there is an admiration for reading, with no more bookshelf space, the books are now piling up all over the house. Then Fore-edge paintings came to my attention and a new realm of expression was to be explored. Once I had gotten the hang of such a unique method of art it became my newfound love and why not share it? The favorites are the classics, (namely Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice being a recurring commission). Whatever the book, it deserves beautiful artwork alongside it.
